Fellow Fem Dems,
We are urging Fem Dems members to come out this Thursday (2/9/17) to Sierra 2 Center at 6pm to support Black Young Democrats (BYD) and Organize Win Legislate Sacramento (and 2 other regional organizations: Latinx Young Democrats of Sacramento and Davis College Democrats Alumni Club) as they petition to officially charter with the Democratic Party of Sacramento County (DPSC). The DPSC Executive Board voted to deny the chartering of any new democratic clubs within the county for all of 2017 but will be putting a binding vote up to the general membership of DPSC on Thursday.
In the past year, the Fem Dems has partnered with BYD and Organize Win Legislate Sacramento for multiple successful events. BYD co-hosted a panel discussion with Fem Dems on identity politics. Organize Win Legislate Sacramento developed into its own organization after our #StrongerTogether coalition meeting.
As stated in the preamble of our bylaws, Fem Dems strives to bring the principles of inclusion, equality, and diversity to the forefront of democracy. We do this by making sure everyone has a seat at the table and are part of the solution-finding process and amplifying the voices that need it. The principles and mission of the Fem Dems of Sacramento are why we are voicing our strong support for new clubs trying to charter with the party, and we ask that you join us in solidarity.
In unity,
The Fem Dems of Sacramento Executive Board
