Hey everyone,
Thanks so much for the overwhelming interest and support! We have lots of exciting developments since last week’s Stronger Together coalition meeting. We're making huge strides in becoming an empowering, effective, democratic, and positive grassroots movement dedicated to standing up and fighting back for progressive values when it's needed now more than ever. We are not just protesting - we're directly changing the system. We're going to organize, we're going to win, and we're going to legislate.
To recap last Friday’s meeting with nearly 300 of us packed into a Curtis Park community center, check out this article about us in the Sacramento Bee.
We received notes back from the Immigration and Voter Engagement subgroups (found here). If you were part of one of the other groups, please send your notes to info@femdems.org for us to share with the group!
We're just getting started and we need people to show up and have their voices heard. We're still establishing our mission, goals, and group structure. We are planning our next meeting for the early December, either on a weekday after 5 pm or on a weekend--stay tuned for date/time/location soon!
In the meantime, there is one last way we can affect the 2016 election: Foster Campbell, Democratic candidate for Senate, is facing a runoff election in Louisiana this December 10th against republican John Kennedy. This is our final shot to gain an additional seat in the Senate, and Campbell’s campaign needs our help. If you want to help, sign up to volunteer at http://www.fostercampbell2016.com/volunteer/ or donate directly to the campaign at http://www.fostercampbell2016.com/donate/. We will also be putting together a phone banking event soon.
We’ve realized that our movement is much bigger, and has a broader (but complimentary) mission to the Fem Dems. Going forward we will be turning this group into something separate from Fem Dems, but in the meantime, like us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/femdems916/, Twitter handle @femdems916, or at Meet Up https://www.meetup.com/Fem-Dems-of-Sacramento-County/ for the latest updates.
Tell a friend or a few friends. Invite that Facebook friend who keeps on posting about politics. You know someone. All you have to do is send them that link.
If you haven’t already, please fill out this form to tell us about your interests and skills, and to stay in touch. We're figuring out who's in this group and who's interested in helping out. We want to make sure that everyone can make a big difference even if they don't know what they can do. We also want to make sure that unique skills anyone can offer don't go unappreciated. We will read all of your responses, but your info is safe and private.
In Solidarity,
Denise, Mary, Mark, Tristan, Chase, Heather, Candice, Amber, Linda, Pat, Paco, and Robbie
